Dear Friends, As you may be aware, Stanford University is currently negotiating a General Use Permit (GUP) with Santa Clara County that will set conditions for development over the next 10 years. I'm very concerned about the plan because it would redesignate 154 acres southwest of Junipero Serra Blvd. as core campus, allowing development in the foothills. The remaining foothills area would be safe for only 10 years, and then it too could be developed. Alarmingly, none of Stanford's land in the foothills is designated permanent open space. With Stanford requesting the right to develop more than 4 million square feet over the next 10 years (a 35% increase in the campus - the equivalent of three new Stanford Shopping Centers), I feel strongly that the University should set aside the foothills as permanent open space to help offset the impacts of such a massive development plan. Please visit the Stanford Open Space Alliance website at http://www.sos-alliance.org and sign the petition in support of permanent protection of the foothills. There's a lot of great information on the site, including suggestions for other ways you can help save the foothills. Thank you, and please help spread the word about this important issue. Sincerely, /sign your name here/ |
